Results of Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections to be announced
The counting of votes for the Assembly Elections 2024 in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana will take place today. Voting for all 90 Assembly seats in Haryana was held on October 5 while Jammu and Kashmir voted in three different phases on September 18 (24 seats), 25 (26 seats), and October 1 (40 seats).
According to the Election Commission of India’s website, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) are the important parties in Haryana. The JJP is in alliance with the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), while the INLD has tied up with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP), Congress, and BJP are the important parties in Jammu and Kashmir.
Nobel Prize for Physics to be announced
The Nobel Prize announcement began this week and there is hope that research regarding cancer treatment and cardiovascular drugs could be recognised this year. The Nobel Prize for Physics will be announced on Tuesday with Swiss physicist Christoph Gerber along with David Deutsch and Peter Shor.
While Gerber has been nominated for his work on the atomic force microscope, essential for nanotechnology, Deutsch and Shor are contributors to quantum algorithms and computing. Meanwhile, Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun have been named as the winners of the Nobel Prize for Medicine on Monday (October 7).
ASEAN leaders summit to be held in Laos
A leaders summit of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) will convene in Laos today. According to the official website, Laos is hosting the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits, including ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) and ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Youth this year.

This year’s theme is “Enhancing connectivity and resilience.” Earlier, the lack of direct flights from ASEAN capitals to the landlocked country led to an impromptu gathering of several financial leaders.
Kenyan court likely to hear case against country’s main airport lease deal by Adani
Kenya’s High Court is likely to take up the hearing of the government’s proposal to lease the country’s main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, to India’s Adani Group, reports stated.
Earlier, Kenya’s high court temporarily halted plans to transfer the management of Nairobi’s main airport to the Adani Group, the Financial Times reported.
The hearing comes after Kenya’s main aviation union Kenya Aviation Workers Union called for a strike over the proposed deal last month, saying that it will lead to job losses and bring in non-Kenyan workers.
Mohammad Azharuddin to appear before the ED in a money laundering case
Former Indian cricket captain and Congress politician Mohammad Azharuddin is likely to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on October 8 after he failed to appear on the October 3 summons. The case is concerned with charges of money laundering linked to alleged financial irregularities in the Hyderabad Cricket Association, reported news agency PTI.
The money laundering case stems from three FIRs and charge sheets filed by the Telangana anti-corruption bureau (ACB) for alleged criminal misappropriation of funds of the HCA to the tune of ₹20 crore. The charge sheets contain allegations of serious irregularities in the procurement of DG sets, fire fighting systems and canopies for the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium constructed in Uppal, Hyderabad,” the ED had earlier in a statement.
