Haniyeh funeral procession Tehran

Iran is set to hold a funeral procession for Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on Thursday. The announcement came hours after hours after his assassination. Meanwhile, the funeral is set to take place in the Qatari capital Doha

According to the announcement, the procession will be held on Thursday morning and will start from the Tehran University downtown, with mourners marching towards the iconic Azadi Square in the west of the capital city.

Planned protests in Nigeria

Nigerians are gearing up for nationwide protests amid warnings from the army and politicians. The country is going through its worst cost-of-living crisis in a generation. This comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu – who took power last year – introduced a slew of reforms.

While food inflation is over 40 per cent, hunger remains an issue, particularly in the north. The authorities have directed warnings against protesting at young people, who have built support on social media under the hashtag “EndBadGovernanceinNigeria”.

Farmers to burn BJP Effies in protest

Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha are set to burn effigies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 1. On August 15, farmers will hold tractor marches across districts in Punjab and Haryana to press various demands, including a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for crops.

Farmers from Punjab led by SKM (Non-Political) and KMM began the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march to Delhi on February 13 to demand MSP for crops, among other things, but were stopped by Haryana Police, who had set up barricades, including cemented blocks, on the Ambala-New Delhi national highway. The farmers clashed with police personnel and have been camping at Shambhu and Khanauri border points ever since.

Ministry of Culture to host ‘State Museum Conclave’

A three-day State Museum Conclave is set to take place in the national capital’s Bharat Mandapam for the proposed ‘Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum’ project. The 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee (WHC) is currently underway at the Bharat Mandapam.

The upcoming Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum, billed to be the largest museum in the world, will have eight thematic segments telling the story of India spanning over 5,000 years. The new museum, to be housed in the North Block and South Block in the heart of the country’s capital, will be spread over 1,54,000 sq. m., making it the largest museum in the world.

Nagaland govt implement ban on single-use plastic products

The ban imposed by the Nagaland government on single-use plastic products in the state will come into effect from today. The move comes following a recent meeting over the issue with officials concerned.

The single-use plastic products typically include food and beverage containers, bottles, straws and disposable plastic bags. “All single-use plastic carry bags irrespective of microns and all single-use plastic bottles for water and soft drinks below one litre would be completely banned in the state from August 1,” an official release said.

Karnataka to file FIR against those driving over 130 kmph

Karnataka has decided to tighten the grip on speed monsters to rein in incidents of rash and dangerous driving and decided to file FIRs against those found to be driving beyond 130 kilometres per hour anywhere in the state.

“From August 1, FIR will be registered against those driving vehicles above 130 kmph anywhere in Karnataka for rash and dangerous driving,”  the Additional Director General of Police (Traffic and Road Safety) Alok Kumar said. He explained that once the speed limit is beyond 120 kmph it becomes rash or dangerous driving.
