Firstly, French President Emmanuel Macron is set to visit Washington DC aimed at bringing an end to Russia’s war in Ukraine. Meanwhile, it will be the third anniversary of the day Russia invaded its neighbour Ukraine.

Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez will be travelling to Ukraine to show support to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his country. Meanwhile, French surgeon Joel Le Scouarnec is set to go on trial for allegedly raping and abusing hundreds of patients.

French President Macron to visit Washington DC

French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will visit Washington today to hold meetings aimed at bringing an end to Russia’s war in Ukraine, US national security adviser Mike Waltz informed.

According to Reuters, when asked about the chances of reaching a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, Waltz said in an interview, “We’re engaging on all sides, and then the next step is we’re going to put technical teams forward to start talking more details.”

Third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

It will be the third anniversary of Russia’s all-out attack on Ukraine, a conflict that has reshaped global geopolitics and caused immense human suffering.

At 6:00 pm local time, Ukrainian communities worldwide will activate air raid sirens to symbolise the ongoing conflict and rally international support for Ukraine’s pursuit of peace and justice, reported the Ukrainian World Congress. Meanwhile, the European Union’s 16th package of sanctions against Russia will be implemented from today. This underscores the EU’s commitment to supporting Ukraine.

Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez will travel to Ukraine

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will travel to Ukraine to support President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and the Ukrainian democracy as the country observes the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion.

“I’ll be in Kyiv on Monday to reaffirm Spain’s support for Ukrainian democracy and President Zelenskiy,” Sanchez wrote in a post on social media platform X.

French surgeon Joel Le Scouarnec to go on trial for alleged sexual abuse

France’s largest-ever child abuse trial, concerning former surgeon Joel Le Scouarnec accused of raping and abusing hundreds of young patients, is set to begin today.  Scouarnec stands accused of allegedly raping 299 people during his 25-year career.

Le Scouarnec, now 73, was previously sentenced in December 2020 to 15 years in prison for sexually abusing a neighbour, two nieces, and a 4-year-old patient. The current charges emerged after investigators discovered detailed diaries in his home, chronicling decades of abuse, reported news agency Reuters.

ICC Champions Trophy between Bangladesh and New Zealand

Bangladesh is set to face New Zealand in the sixth match of Group A during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 today at  Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan.

Bangladesh, led by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, faces a challenging group stage, especially with the absence of key all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, reported The Guardian. Meanwhile, New Zealand, under the leadership of Mitchell Santner, is adapting to the loss of veteran bowlers Tim Southee and Trent Boult but remains competitive with experienced batsman Kane Williamson.

PM Modi to address public meeting in Bihar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public meeting at Bihar’s Bhagalpur today. He will also release financial assistance to farmers. He is also likely to unveil development projects worth over Rs 2,000 crore for the election-bound state.

The public meeting will be held at the Airport Ground at 11 am. Farmers from several neighbouring districts are likely to participate in the meeting where PM Modi will release the 19th installment of the Kisan Samman Nidhi.
