It will be a newsy Tuesday with several big political events in the pipeline.

First things first, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union budget for the financial year 2024-25 while the budget session of Telangana Assembly will commence today (July 23).

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the plea filed by the Masjid Committee against offerings in the cellar of the Gyanvapi mosque. YouTuber Elvish Yadav will appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection to a money laundering case linked to the snake venom rave party incident he has been involved in.

On the global front, Google, Tesla and Coca-Cola are likely to announce their Q2 results. Meanwhile, the International Olympic Committee session will be held in Paris ahead of the Summer Games slated to begin later in the week.

FM Sitharaman to present Union Budget

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the budget for the seventh time this year. Earlier in the year, she had tabled the interim budget ahead of the general elections.

On Monday (July 22) she presented the Economic Survey 2023-24. It is an annual document presented by the government ahead of the Union Budget to review the state of the economy. The document also provides an overview of the short-to-medium-term prospects of the economy.

The first Economic Survey came into existence in 1950-51 when it used to be a part of the budget documents. In the 1960s, it was separated from the Union Budget and tabled a day before the presentation of the Budget.

Budget session to commence in Telangana

The budget session of the Telangana Legislature will start from July 23. Governor CP Radhakrishnan has summoned the third session of the third legislative assembly and the Legislative Council will start its proceedings the next day.

The first day of the budget session in Telangana will feature the address by the Governor to the joint sitting of the legislature. This will be followed by the presentation of the full budget on July 25 incorporating last minute changes, if any, according to senior officials.

This will be the first full budget of the Congress Government after a gap of one decade. The party has presented its last budget in the legislature in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh In 2014.

SC to hear masjid committee’s plea against pooja in Gyanvapi cellar

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the plea filed by the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee against the Varanasi court’s order allowing Hindu parties to offer prayers and pooja in the southern cellar or basement (tehkhana) of the Gyanvapi Mosque.

In April, the Bench, also comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, had refused to pass any interim order staying the decision of the Allahabad High Court upholding the January 31 district court order regarding the conduct of Hindu prayers in the southern cellar of the Gyanvapi Mosque.

The top court had said that it would be appropriate to maintain a status quo at the disputed site to allow both communities to offer religious worship.

Elvish Yadav to appear before ED

YouTuber Elvish Yadav is set to appear before the ED for questioning in a money laundering case linked to the suspected use of snake venom as a recreational drug in parties hosted by him.

The central agency had registered the case in May and pressed charges under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after taking cognisance of an FIR and a charge sheet filed against Yadav and linked persons.

The controversial 26-year-old YouTuber, also the winner of the reality show Bigg Boss OTT 2, was booked under various sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Wildlife Protection Act and Indian Penal Code (IPC) by the Noida police.

Election for new president of Mumbai Cricket Association

The election for a new president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will be held on July 23 after the incumbent Amol Kale died earlier this month.

47-year-old Kale, died of a cardiac arrest in New York after attending the T20 World Cup match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan on the intervening night of June 9 and 10. He was elected as the president of the powerful association after defeating former India cricketer Sandeep Patil in October 2022.

Coca-Cola, Tesla to declare Q2 earnings

The Coca-Cola Company is all set to declare its earnings for the second quarter of the year. Over the years, it has constantly innovated its portfolio and expanded far beyond the flagship product.

Google parent Alphabet (Google) is set to report second-quarter earnings after the bell with investors likely to be watching for sustained cloud growth and updates on artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, Tesla is also set to declare their second-quarter earnings. Its CEO Elon Musk is expected to double down on the company’s robotaxi plans and AI products.
