Modi, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince meet

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in New Delhi on Sunday on his first official visit. Today (September 9), he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hold discussions on a wide range of areas of bilateral cooperation. He is also scheduled to call on President Droupadi Murmu and visit Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

Apple event

Apple’s September event, with the tagline “It’s Glowtime,” kicks off Monday and will likely centre on the newest iPhones coming to the lineup.

The event will be at the tech firm’s headquarters in California’s Cupertino.

It will start at 10.30 pm IST/ 1 pm ET.

Rahul Gandhi in the US

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is in Washington, DC, on his first international trip since becoming the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

He is set to interact with a variety of people, including a think tank and the National Press Club.

Notably, the visit comes after Gandhi’s last trip in May 2023, where he interacted with over a thousand members of Silicon Valley.

Norwegian PM in China

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store will pay an official visit to China from September 9 to 11, according to the Xinhua agency.

The visit, which comes at the invitation of Premier Li Qiang of the State Council, coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

He will be meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, chairperson of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee.

GST Council meet

The upcoming Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting today will discuss the rationalisation of rates on several items.

However, a decision regarding any rate change will be taken in subsequent meetings

A committee of officers will make a presentation on the current status of rates under GST in the Council meeting, which would then be shared with the Group of Ministers (GoM) on rate rationalisation for their consideration, earlier Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said.

CM Siddaramaiah’s plea in HC in the MUDA case

The Karnataka High Court will hear Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s petition challenging the legality of Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s sanction for his prosecution in the case.

The Governor on August 16 accorded sanction under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 218 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 for the commission of the alleged offences as mentioned in the petitions of Pradeep Kumar S P, T J Abraham and Snehamayi Krishna.

In the petition, the Chief Minister submitted that the sanction order was issued without due application of mind, in violation of statutory mandates, and contrary to constitutional principles, including the advice of the Council of Ministers, which is binding under Article 163 of the Constitution of India.

INDUS-X Summit at Stanford University

The third edition of the India-U.S. Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS-X) Summit will be held at the Stanford University in California on September 9 and 10.

During the summit, top defence leaders from the two countries would brainstorm on enhancing cross-border defence innovation ecosystems.

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are among the key leaders to address the summit to be hosted by U.S. India Strategic and Partnership Forum (USISPF) along with Stanford University’s Gordian Knot Centre for National Security Innovation and the Hoover Institution.

Yudh Abhyas in Rajasthan

India and the United States are set to conduct their largest-ever joint military exercise at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan from September 9 to 24.

This historic event, known as Yudh Abhyas, will see the participation of 600 soldiers from each country, marking a new milestone in the defence partnership between the two nations.

Previous editions were held in diverse environments, with the 2023 exercise taking place in Alaska, USA, and the 2022 edition conducted in Auli, Uttarakhand.
