Mirabel Vance watched from her mother’s arms as her father took the oath of office as Vice President on Monday.
The internet is buzzing with admiration for the charm and cuteness of JD Vance’s children.
Here’s how the two-year-old became the centre of attention:
Why JD Vance’s daughter has gone viral
Mirabel’s outfit, including a charming coat and sweater, was delightful enough for a fashionable toddler, but what truly caught everyone’s eye were the bandages surrounding her fingers.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Usha, JD Vance’s wife, proudly stood beside him while holding both their young daughter and the Bible used for the oath. Their sons, Ewan and Vivek, dressed in matching blue suits and ties, were also there to support their father on this momentous occasion.
Despite the solemnity of the event, it was three-year-old Mirabel who stole the spotlight as she sucked her thumb while her father was sworn in as Vice President of the United States.
Carried on her mother’s hip, the toddler gazed at her father with her thumb in her mouth and three fingers decorated with colourful plasters. The bandages were not ordinary - they featured beloved cartoon characters Bluey and Scooby-Doo.

Another commented, “The bandaids on JD Vance’s daughter’s fingers are taking me out. You know there are NO cuts under there and they just needed to put them on because she insisted and they needed her to behave.”
A third user posted, “I think the whole country can come together and agree that JD Vance’s daughter sucking her thumb with those kid bandages on her other fingers is totally adorable.”
Another stated, “JD Vance’s daughter covering herself with bandaids just ahead of an important event is an iconic toddler move.”

What we know about JD Vance’s kids
JD Vance, Donald Trump’s Vice President, shares three children with his Indian-origin wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.
“My most important American dream was becoming a good husband and a good dad,” Vance stated during his speech at the Republican National Convention in 2024. “I wanted to give my kids the things I didn’t have when I was growing up.”
At the same event, he gave a heartfelt shoutout to his children, saying, “If you’re watching, Daddy loves you very much,” before jokingly adding, “but get your butts in bed, it’s 10 o’clock.”
Mirabel Rose Vance
In December 2021, the Vances welcomed their third child, a daughter named Mirabel.
“We were blessed with an early Christmas present this year. Everyone please meet Mirabel Rose Vance, our first girl. Mama and baby both doing great, and we’re feeling very grateful this Christmas season,” Vance announced on Instagram.
Ewan Blaine Vance
Ewan, born in June 2017, is the couple’s eldest child. Three weeks before his birth, Usha and JD Vance spoke to NBC News, revealing they had discovered the baby’s gender early in the pregnancy.
In February 2024, while speaking on the Senate floor, Vance referred to Ewan as his “6-year-old baby boy,” before laughing and correcting himself, saying he’s “not so much of a baby anymore.”
Vivek Vance
The couple’s second son, Vivek, was born in February 2020.
Although the Vances keep their children largely out of the public eye, JD shared a glimpse into their life with a post about a fishing trip he took with Vivek in October 2024.

Donald Trump is the US President
Donald Trump, 78, took the oath of office in the Capitol Rotunda, a location symbolically significant as it was the site of the January 6 Capitol attack. That event had marked a failed attempt by his supporters to overturn his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden.
In his inaugural speech, Trump characterised himself as a saviour chosen by God. He said, “I was saved by God to make America great again.”
The ceremony marked a dramatic political comeback for Trump, who overcame two assassination attempts and secured election despite a criminal conviction related to his 2020 election loss.
Trump became the first president in over a century to win a second term after losing the White House and the first felon to hold the office. At 78, he is also the oldest person to ever be sworn in as president, supported by Republican majorities in Congress.
Shortly after taking the oath, US border authorities announced the shutdown of a program that had allowed hundreds of thousands of migrants to enter the US legally through scheduled appointments on a smartphone app. All existing appointments were cancelled.
At the White House, Trump signed several executive orders, including one declaring a national emergency at the US-Mexico border, enabling the deployment of troops and unlocking emergency funds.
Another order aimed to end birthright citizenship for children born in the US, setting the stage for an intense legal battle. A third order officially designated Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organisations.
