The aviation business is noted for having a more modest dress code than other industries.
Many people may be able to impress recruiters right away by dressing appropriately.
To assist with the best advice, Delta Air Lines has posted on its website a two-page document outlining its strict standards for prospective flight attendants’ training, interviews, and career advancement.
There’s also a new requirement for undergarments.
Let’s take a closer look.
‘Dress for success’ guidelines
Delta Air Lines has released grooming, hair, jewellery, and dress requirements. Of particular note is the emphasis on undergarments.
The memo states that “proper undergarments” are required, but they can’t be seen.
Additionally, the airline emphasised professionalism and neat appearance and mandated that prospective and existing flight attendants uphold these criteria.
Delta placed a strong focus on fit and professionalism when it came to attire. According to the memo, athletic shoes are not allowed, and dresses and skirts must fall to the knees or lower.
Flight attendants must wear heels, slingbacks, or closed-toe flats instead.
When wearing button-collared dress shirts, male uniform wearers must wear ties.
“Tie is required with button-collared dress shirts for those who choose to wear the male uniform,” it added.
Other specifics
Flight attendants are required to have “natural-looking” hair colour with “no stark highlights or unnatural shades,” according to the hair division. Their hair needs to be “pulled completely back and secured away from the eyes” if it is longer than the shoulder. If it reaches past the centre of the back, it needs to be pinned up.
Impact Shorts
More Shorts“Personal cleanliness and hygiene must always be maintained” is a rule regarding grooming. It is required that all nails have the same colour and that eyelashes “appear natural.”
“No neon colours, multi-colour, adornments, glitter, hand-painted designs or airbrushed nails permitted,” the memo explains.
Also, tattoos must be covered, but “bandages are not suitable for coverage of tattoos at any time.”
“Only a single nose piercing is permitted, and gold, silver, white pearl or clear diamond/diamond-like studs are the only ones allowed. No other body piercings can be visible. Only two earrings per ear are allowed — but no hoops. Earrings must not be larger than the size of a dime.”
According to Delta, there is a rigorous no-tolerance policy for using phones or earbuds, chewing gum, and using profanity on the day of the interview.
The reason
A representative for Delta told DailyMail.com that the change was new and that their goal was to be “more specific.”
“In the interest of transparency and clarity for all prospective candidates we are encouraging people to ‘dress for success’ and give a great first impression as they aspire to join the flight attendant ranks,” the spokesperson said.
The memo read, “Delta Flight Attendants spend the most time with our customers and are the face of our airline. They must be passionate about enhancing each customer’s experience while embodying the Delta brand.”
“A Delta Flight Attendant is expected to deliver a Welcoming, Elevated and Caring experience while creating moments that matter to our customers.”
“The customer service experience begins the moment a Flight Attendant puts on their uniform. The Delta uniform represents always putting safety first, pride in the Delta culture and demonstrates a genuine graciousness that will be remembered by our customers,” it said.
“We will work with you to accommodate a specific manner of dress or physical appearance in keeping with religious beliefs or practices unless it causes a safety hazard or other undue burden on the company,” the memo concluded.
High demand for jobs
There are five steps in the airline’s interview procedure.
Following application submission, candidates will be invited to a video interview, an in-person event day that includes a second interview, and a virtual job tryout.
Those who are chosen for the position receive a conditional offer and have to spend seven weeks in training.
For the first time in more than a year, Delta resumed accepting applications for flight attendant positions at the beginning of September.
An airline representative earlier informed Business Insider that some applicants were having trouble accessing the application page due to exceptionally high demand. That issue has already been resolved.
Up until September, prospective flight attendants can attend information sessions hosted by Delta staff in Connecticut, Florida, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Washington State, according to another Business Insider report.
