The deadline for Pakistani citizens on medical visas to leave India expires today following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which is located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Canada’s preliminary election results are expected today after millions of citizens cast their votes on Monday.
Meanwhile, across the border from Canada, US President Donald Trump completes 100 days in office. Traditionally, this is seen as an early milestone where a president’s progress is judged against campaign promises.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will start his tour of Rae Bareli and Amethi in Uttar Pradesh today.
Another attempt will be made today to auction the house of Myanmar’s jailed former leader Aung San Suu Kyi after three earlier efforts failed.
In sports, Arsenal will face Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.
Here’s a look at the events in detail:
Deadline for Pakistani citizens with medical visas to exit India
Today marks the deadline for Pakistani citizens with medical visas to leave India. This comes after the deadline for holders of 12 categories of short-term visas from Pakistan ended on Sunday, April 27.
The 12 types of visas included visa on arrival, business, film, journalist, transit, conference, mountaineering, student, visitor, group tourist, pilgrim, and group pilgrim. The deadline for those holding SAARC visas expired on April 26.
This move by the Indian government comes after the deadly terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam that killed 26 people.
The attack took place at Baisaran, a scenic meadow known as ‘mini Switzerland’. The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow group of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the attack.

US President Donald Trump has reached the 100-day milestone of his second term in office today, having begun his second term on January 20.
To mark the occasion, he will host a rally in Michigan, his first since returning to the White House earlier this year.
This rally falls on Trump’s 100th day in office, a key moment often used to assess a president’s progress on their campaign promises. Notably, Michigan played a major role in Trump’s victory last year, as he flipped the state from Democrat to Republican on his way back to the White House.
However, a CNN poll revealed that Trump’s approval rating has dropped by 4 points since March and is now 7 points lower than it was in late February.
At 41%, his approval rating is the lowest for any newly elected president at 100 days, dating back to Dwight Eisenhower’s time in office, even lower than during Trump’s first term.
In the first 100 days, the Republican President has sparked a global tariff war, cut US foreign aid, and aligned with Russia’s narrative regarding its invasion of Ukraine.
Rahul Gandhi to visit Rae Bareli, Amethi
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will begin a two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh today. He will visit his constituency, Rae Bareli, and his party stronghold, Amethi.
During his visit, he will inaugurate a heart unit at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Amethi and inspect the ordnance factory in Munshiganj. This will be Gandhi’s first visit to Amethi since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Congress MP from Amethi, Kishori Lal Sharma, stated that Gandhi will begin his visit to Rae Bareli today, where he will attend a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (Disha).
Canada federal election results
Millions of Canadians cast their votes on Monday in a snap federal election , which has largely centred around how candidates would respond to Donald Trump’s tariff threats and his suggestion that Canada should become the 51st state.
Prime Minister Mark Carney, leader of the Liberal Party, called the election in March after taking over from former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. His main challenger is Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.
Federal election officials are required to count votes by hand in the presence of witnesses, with ballots only counted after the polls close in each location.
Preliminary results are expected today. If the Liberals win, Mark Carney will not need to be sworn in again. However, if the Conservatives win, it will likely take around two weeks for Pierre Poilievre to become Prime Minister.
Another attempt to auction off Aung San Suu Kyi’s house today
Myanmar’s junta will make a fourth attempt to auction off the family home of former leader Aung San Suu Kyi, after three previous attempts failed.
Suu Kyi, who was under house arrest for years at the mansion during the previous junta rule, has been detained since the military took power again in February 2021.
The house is seen as a powerful symbol of her peaceful struggle against military rule, which earned her the Nobel Peace Prize.
Following the military coup in February 2021, Suu Kyi’s democratically elected government was ousted. She is currently serving a combined 27-year sentence, after being convicted of various criminal charges that her supporters argue are politically motivated and intended to undermine her.
