Ukraine on Monday for the first time used Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) to target Russia after the nod from outgoing US President Joe Biden. The West has supplied Ukraine with many different weapons in its war with Russia. Let’s take a closer look at them

Monday was the 1000th day of the Ukraine-Russia war.

Ukraine for the first time used Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) to target Russia.

This after US President Joe Biden, who is set to hand over power to President-elect Donald Trump come January, gave his permission for Kyiv to do so.

Russia said its forces shot down five of six missiles fired at a military facility in the Bryansk region. Debris of one hit the facility, starting a fire that was swiftly put out and caused no casualties or damage, it said.

Though Ukraine has had these missiles since October 2023, the United States has been reluctant to authorise their use.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the use of ATACMS was a clear signal the West wanted to escalate the conflict.

Ukraine has long deployed drones to hit targets deep inside Russian territory, including airfields and sites associated with energy. But the use of dozens dispatched over a short period of time was unusual.
