The much-awaited Apple Event 2025 will take place today (September 9), where the California-based company is expected to unveil the new iPhone 17 series.
In addition to the iPhone 17 series, the event is likely to showcase new Apple Watch models, refreshed AirPods, and a variety of other accessories.
A major focus will be on the iPhone 17 Air, which is tipped to be the star of the launch. The model is being viewed as the most significant change to the iPhone range since the release of the iPhone X in 2017.
So, which products are set to be unveiled today? What’s new in the iPhone 17 series, and what do we know about the iPhone 17 Air? How much is it expected to cost?
Here’s everything you need to know:
What to expect from the iPhone 17 series
The iPhone 17 series is expected to be the main highlight of the event. Apple is likely to announce four new models: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The regular iPhone 17 may feature a larger screen, a 24MP front camera, ProMotion support and an always-on display.
The iPhone 17 Pro could come with a redesigned camera bar, the new A19 Pro chip, a 48MP telephoto lens and a 24MP front camera.
The top-end iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to include these Pro features along with a thicker frame to fit in a larger battery, according to Hindustan Times.
Leaks suggest the iPhone 17 series could be more striking in appearance, with two new colours, green and purple, being considered. Last year’s iPhone 16 was released in five colours: black, white, pink, teal and ultramarine, a shade of deep blue.
Impact Shorts
More ShortsA report by Forbes, citing leaks, claimed the iPhone 17 Pro Max could feature a battery of about 5,000mAh. This would be larger than the iPhone 16 Pro Max battery, which stands at 4,676mAh.
Expected price for iPhone 17 models
Reports suggest the iPhone 17 series may start at Rs 89,900 for the base model, with the Pro Max possibly reaching Rs 1,64,900. The final prices could still vary depending on currency changes and Apple’s global pricing strategy.
According to JPMorgan, the entry-level iPhone 17 is expected to remain at $799, the same as the iPhone 16.
The expected price increase for the higher models is said to be due to tariff demands by US President Donald Trump, along with the planned hardware upgrades.
What to expect from iPhone 17 Air: Price, specifications and more
The iPhone 17 Air stands out for its slim design.
Reports say it will measure just 5.5mm at its thinnest point, making it the slimmest iPhone Apple has ever introduced.
The model is expected to feature a horizontal pill-shaped camera bump, which makes space for a 48MP wide sensor despite the slim build.
Another change comes in the screen size. Unlike the 6.7-inch display on the iPhone 16 Plus, the iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.6-inch panel. This slight reduction is said to balance slimness with ease of use, India Today reported.
With its 5.5mm thickness, the device may not allow room for a big battery. Leaks indicate it could come with a 2,800mAh unit, similar to what Apple used in the iPhone 12.
On the pricing front, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to launch in the US at $899, the same price as the iPhone 16 Plus.
In India, the price is tipped to be about Rs 89,900, though tariffs and import duties may push it higher. If that happens, it could go up to around Rs 95,000.
What else could be unveiled today?
Apple Watches
The Apple Watch Series 11 and Watch Ultra 3 are also expected at the event.
The Series 11 is likely to bring design changes, while the new Ultra model may offer more than just a colour refresh.
AirPods Pro 3
According to Bloomberg, the third-generation AirPods Pro could also make an appearance. The report suggests this update may mark Apple’s stronger shift towards services.
The new AirPods are expected this year, though details on their design and features remain limited.
