Zero box office collection: Shah Rukh, Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif's film earns Rs 20.14 cr on opening day

The much-awaited Zero hit the screens on 21 December and was able to mint Rs 20.14 crores on its opening day. [caption id=“attachment_5483871” align=“alignnone” width=“825”] Posters of Zero[/caption] Despite a stellar star cast, comprising Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, the enormous hype around Aanand L Rai’s high concept film failed to draw sufficient footfall, as per trade analysts. Featuring Shah Rukh as a vertically challenged man, the film had the added advantage of releasing on the Christmas weekend. It was also released in as many as 4830 screens across the country to ensure a massive opening.

The film has received polarised responses from critics. While the performances of the lead actors have been universally lauded, the plot and the execution of Zero has divided critics, with many expressing disappointment with the lacklustre second half. Zero revolves around Shah Rukh Khan’s Bauua Singh, and his encounters with Babita Kumari (Katrina Kaif), an actress battling alcoholism, and a wheelchair using scientist (Anushka Sharma). Shah Rukh had earlier spoken about the possibility of the film’s commercial failure , considering the last few releases of the superstar had failed to garner the box office numbers. He had said, “God forbid, if this film doesn’t work, what will happen? Maybe, I won’t get work for six months or 10 months, but if I believe that my craft and art is good, I will continue to get work.”
