 "'xXx: The Return of Xander Cage' new teaser: Deepika Padukone shines in action avatar")
After watching Indian actors play stereotypical or insignificant roles in Hollywood for years, it is refreshing to see Deepika Padukone helm a meatier role than most of her predecessors in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. The makers have released a separate poster and teaser of her character which attest to this fact. Deepika plays Serena Unger, a formidable cohort and love interest of Xander Cage, who joins forces with him to save the world from a juggernaut called Pandora’s Box. Padukone looks stunning in her poster, sporting an action avatar and flaunting a gun.Her teaser depicts India as her place of origin and her accent remains characteristically Indian, as opposed to various other Indian actors who adopt a western accent even though their characters do not demand so. The teaser shows that her strength lies in her way with weapons and she also engages in a heated yet passionate altercation with Vin Diesel where she is seen exchanging moves and one-liners with him. This exchange reflects the bittersweet equation that her character shares with that of Diesel.
While the teaser and poster of Padukone have left her fans back home asking for more, a report by the Indian Express reveals that the makers plan to release posters and teasers for each character of the ensemble as a creative way to introduce the audience to the team of Xander Cage. The makers unveiled the poster of Diesel who plays Cage along with those of his partners in crime, Tony Jaa, Nina Dobrev and Ruby Rose who play Talon, Becky and Adele Wolff respectively. They also unveiled a poster of Brazilian footballer Neymar Jr. but kept his character under wraps.

Along with Padukone’s character, they also released a teaser of Xiang and Nicks, two characters originating from China, played by Donnie Yen and Kris Wu respectively. While Xiang “flies without wings” using his bike, Nicks plays a DJ and is well versed with diversion tactics.
xXx: The Return of Xander Cage is the third installment of the xXx franchise. The fast-paced action flick is directed by D.J. Caruso and produced by Diesel, Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Samantha Vincent. It is slated to release on 20 January 2017.
