Wonder Wheel trailer: Kate Winslet, Justin Timberlake are at odds in Woody Allen's film
The opening shots of the trailer of Wonder Wheel, directed by Woody Allen, will remind you of vintage Pepsi ads. There are scores of people sunning themselves on beaches, '50s American fashion on display, and a good ol' amusement park, complete with a Ferris Wheel.
The film tells the story of Kate Winslet's character Ginny, who is a former actress who is now a waitress and her sour-faced husband who helps run a carousel. Their monotonous, unimpressive life is turned upside down by the entry of his estranged daughter, who is being chased by gangsters, and a chunk of the film focuses on their troubled relationship with her as she tries to integrate into their family.
Enter Justin Timberlake who plays a attractive life guard on the Coney Island coast; he aspires to be a playwright. He and Winslet develop an equation, and incidentally, he is the one who suspects that she is up to something mysterious, and perhaps murderous.
This is a Woody Allen film, and the trailer itself is replete with rich visuals and breezy-but-impactful lines. "When it comes to love, we often turn out to be our worst enemies," says Winslet's character. The director continues to time travel through his films, after Midnight in Paris and Café Society.
Wonder Wheel is slated to release on 1 December.
