The new release this week, Shahid, is based on the real-life events of the life of Shahid Azmi, who was killed at the age of 33. While the movie is getting rave reviews and audiences are appreciating it as well, there are some people who are in no rush to see the movie - Shahid’s family. [caption id=“attachment_1184981” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Poster of film Shahid.[/caption] Shahid’s brother, who is also a human rights lawyer, spoke to the Indian Express about how while he was looking forward to seeing the movie, the family had had a hard time with the movie, and were not ready to watch it. “I wanted them to come along to watch the film, fight their demons and finally make peace with bhai’s (Shahid) death. But they just would not agree,” said Khalid, who watched the film Friday, to the Indian Express. “There has not been a single day when my mother has not remembered Shahid. He was her favourite. This film, although, is an honest tribute to my brother, my family lacks the courage to watch it. My family says it cannot see him die again,” Khalid said in the report. In “Shahid”, Mehta chronicles the life of lawyer Shahid Azmi, who witnesses the 1993 Mumbai riots. Shaken by the violence, he escapes to Kashmir to join the militants. But unnerved by the jingoism and extremism he sees there, he returns to Mumbai. But once there, he’s arrested and thrown into prison under Mumbai’s anti-terror laws. Shahid studies, gets his law degree, and begins to work for human rights. At the time of his death, Shahid was handling important cases such as the November 26, 2008 terror case.
