A new complaint has been filed against Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan with regards to their child born to a surrogate mother. The complaint, which is also filed against the civic authorities, has been filed because of an alleged violation of sections of the re-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex selection) Act. According to a report in the Times of India, social activist and lawyer Varsha Deshpande has sought a copy of the report to be prepared following the official probe, which happened earlier on 17 June, saying that the copy should have been given to her since she is the complainant. These documents are to be made available within 24 hours, for a just decision of the case, and irreparable loss will be sustained by the complainant and merits of the case,” she said to the Times of India. Notices have been issued to the Khans, the BMC commissioner, health officer, (health department), Maharashtra State Appropriate Authority, Jaslok Hospital and an IVF expert. According to a report in the Indian Express, Deshpande alleged that the civic officials had failed to take action against the couple and hence she moved the magistrate’s court with a fresh complaint. Last month, Shahrukh had confirmed the premature birth of AbRam, who is his third child. Khan also put the record straight that “there was no sex determination for our child”. “The baby was born much before the speculations of ‘sex determination’ and other ‘issues’ pertaining to the same were being raised in the media by some organisations. Suffice to say his coming home puts to rest completely false and at times insensitive claims of sex determination and alleged illegalities,” he added. On his part, the actor-producer has also apologised to “all those other doctors and hospitals who had to face unwanted scrutiny and questioning by some parties”, and he has thanked the doctor concerned, Jatin Shah, for his expertise and contribution to make the surrogacy successful.
