Who is Anitta? Here's the scoop on the Rio Olympics opening ceremony performer

Amidst protests in the Rio, the Olympics Opening Ceremony went off pretty smoothly. Headlining the show along with Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil was 23 year-old Anitta who stole the show on stage at Maracanã Stadium. Image courtesy: Anitta on Instagram[/caption] Everybody was talking about who the 23 year old break-out star is, given that she got a chance to perform with two Grammy winning veteran singers. The 23 year old is a rising pop star who has already made a name for herself in the United States. Anitta garnered fame in 2013 after releasing her debut single ‘ Show das Poderosas'. She also has the title of being the youngest Brazilian singer to perform at the Latin Grammy Awards in Nomvember 2014. Her last single, ‘ Bang’, released in 2015, has more than 200 million plus views on Youtube. Most recently she collaborated with Columbian singer Maluma for the single ‘ Sim Ou Não’ which has garnered more than 13 million views on Youtube. The Olympics performance was a surprise to her too; her team broke the news to her after her birthday dinner. “I didn’t say this to a single person,” she said to BBC. Anitta was so excited that she wanted to keep that moment to herself for as long as possible. Here’s a small snippet of her Rio performance:If you are already a fan of Aniita’s after her Rio performance, then you’re in luck. She’s pretty active on Instagram and Facebook, with more than 15 million fans on both accounts. She frequently uploads videos and photos of her performances, and sneak peaks of behind-the-scene moments of her life. She still thinks she has a long way to go though, but she is really grateful for the break the Rio Olympics have given to her career. She told  Billboard in an interview; “I come from the ghetto. No one there probably imagined I’d get this far.”
