Amidst protests in the Rio, the Olympics Opening Ceremony went off pretty smoothly. Headlining the show along with Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil was 23 year-old Anitta who stole the show on stage at Maracanã Stadium. The 23 year old is a rising pop star who has already made a name for herself in the United States. Anitta garnered fame in 2013 after releasing her debut single ‘ Show das Poderosas'. She also has the title of being the youngest Brazilian singer to perform at the Latin Grammy Awards in Nomvember 2014. Her last single, ‘ Bang’, released in 2015, has more than 200 million plus views on Youtube. Most recently she collaborated with Columbian singer Maluma for the single ‘ Sim Ou Não’ which has garnered more than 13 million views on Youtube. The Olympics performance was a surprise to her too; her team broke the news to her after her birthday dinner. “I didn’t say this to a single person,” she said to BBC. Anitta was so excited that she wanted to keep that moment to herself for as long as possible. No one there probably imagined I’d get this far.”
