When Mithun Chakraborty wanted to kill himself during his struggling days: 'Sometimes I used to think...'

Today morning, Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty was named the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the government’s highest recognition in the field of cinema.

In his illustrious career of around 5 decades, the actor has given several memorable performances in films like Mrigayaa, Agneepath, Dance Dance and others.

However, during his struggling days, the actor faced tough times and even thought of ending his life.

“I generally don’t talk much about this, and also there’s no particular phase I want to mention. Let’s not talk about those struggling days since it might demotivate aspiring artists. Everyone goes through struggles, but mine was so much. Sometimes I used to think I won’t be able to achieve my goals, I even thought of committing suicide. I couldn’t even return to Kolkata due to some reasons. But my advice is never to think of ending your life without fighting. I am a born fighter and I didn’t know how to lose. And, see where I am now,” the actor said to Times of India.

Chakraborty , 74, made his acting debut with Mrinal Sen’s 1976 “Mrigayaa”, for which he won the National Film Award for Best Actor.

Mithun Chakraborty was conferred with the esteemed Padma Bhushan Award in January 2024. The Disco Dancer actor, in a video message, conveyed gratitude while also expressing the happiness he felt for being honoured with the award. The actor said that it is indeed an extraordinary experience to be presented with such a significant award. For those uninitiated, Chakraborty has had an illustrious journey in a career spanning over four decades. Throughout his career, he has earned several prestigious honours including the National Award.
