Juhi Chawla once shared her experience of telling Shah Rukh Khan about the colour of their jersey and why she chooses not to watch the matches with him.
In the documentary Living with KKR, Juhi Chawla‘s husband shared an anecdote and said, “After we came back from South Africa with our famous losing streak, Juhi, suddenly, tells me ‘I am superstitious about black as a colour and I think black is unlucky for KKR.”
Their collective response was “What nonsense.” But the KKR team did change the colour of their jerseys from black to purple as years passed by.
Juhi Chawla and Shah Rukh Khan have been co-stars, business partners (Dreamz Unlimited and Kolkata Knight Riders) and really close friends. They have worked in films like Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Ram Jaane, Yes Boss, One 2 Ka 4, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Paheli, Bhoothnath, Duplicate.
Talking about his journey at the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the actress recalled the time when Khan was new to Mumbai and the world of films. Chawla revealed, “I remember Shah Rukh those days didn’t have a home in Mumbai. So he used to come from Delhi (his hometown). I don’t know where he stayed. He used to have tea with the unit (the film crew), eat with the unit, and blended in the unit seamlessly. He also did 2-3 shifts then. He was doing Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992) with me, Dil Aashna Hai (1992), and another film with Divya (Bharti, Deewana, 1992). He was very driven.”
The actress added, “He had a black Gypsy. But it was taken away one day because he couldn’t pay the EMI, or there was something. He came on our set very dejected. I told him, ‘Don’t worry, you’ll have many more cars one day.’ And he still remembers that. Because it’s true. Look at him today.”
