Having started his career with the 1986 film Ilzaam, yesteryear star Govinda rose to stardom in the 90s when he turned to romcoms, making the best of his perfect comic timing. When celebs like Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, and others were delivering hits, Govinda single-handedly ran a parallel industry as an entertainer. While he had a very successful career back in the 90s, he also had a reputation for being late to his shoots.
Ad guru Prahlad Kakkar recently recalled working with Govinda in the 90s, sharing details about the actor’s tardiness. He further shared how Govinda once promised to make it in time for a shoot even while being thousands of miles away. When Govinda arrived 48 hours late to shooting In a conversation with Cyrus Broacha ahead of the launch of his autobiography, Prahlad Kakkar said, “Once Govinda came 24 hours late,” and later corrected and said that the actor was actually a full two days late. “We had a big set in Hyderabad and he was supposed to come from Srinagar. It was then that he said ‘Don’t worry, I will be on time.’ When I asked how he would come as there was also no flight, he said. ‘I will come in the car’. While laughing over it, Prahlad further said, “From Srinagar to Hyderabad in eight hours, according to him. But anyway, he turned up two days later but he eventually turned up.” Apart from this, the ad guru recalled another incident when Govinda was in a hurry to leave the shooting. “I remember once he came on a set of mine. We had a Titanic-like set with him and a girl on the prow. However he came, looked at the set, and said ‘Should we do it fast? I have to go’ I said ‘No, you have to finish this. The whole set is standing for you.’ Next, we got him up with the help of a ladder and removed it. He kept saying that he wanted to leave. I said ‘Okay, you can go. Jump from there. So he just shut up and did the shoot,” he said. Besides Govinda, the ad filmmaker also spoke about his working experience with Amitabh Bachchan.
