Filmmaker Karan Johar completes 25 years as a filmmaker in 2023. He made his directorial debut in 1998 with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. While speaking to fashion designer Prabal Gurung, the filmmaker revealed how his father and filmmaker Yash Johar wanted him to be an actor as he considered him ’the most good-looking man,’ and and how his good friends Shah Rukh Khan and Aditya Chopra stepped in. The two encouraged Karan Johar and Yash Johar both to let the former be behind the camera and make films, and the rest is history. On his former lover Karan Johar has said this in many of his interviews that Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, his 2016 directorial, stemmed from a personal experience of ache, anguish, and one-sided love. In a recent interview with Mid-day, he opened up about this lover he didn’t name and revealed, “That person was completely sensitive to me and went through every beat with me with utmost sensitivity so I can neither hate that person nor can be indifferent towards them. As part of the conversation with Mid-Day, Karan Johar revealed snippets from a ‘scary incident’ that unfolded on the premiere night of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji. The filmmaker shared that he was hiding in a hotel room after receiving a threat from a gangster.
On Bollywood’s Baadshah being his most cherished friend, the ace director revealed how he stood by him like a rock. Karan said, “I’ll never forget how Shah Rukh brought me out. He said, ‘I’ll take the bullet for you, you just stand here’. That’s when I realised this is a forever relationship.”
