Delving into an unsolved murder mystery and inspired by the sensational murder of 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar and 45-year-old Hemraj Banjade, the trailer of the movie Talvar was released this Saturday (22 August). Directed by Meghna Gulzar and written by Vishal Bharadwaj, the Talvar trailer sets a gritty investigative tone. The two-minute-forty-second trailer shows Neeraj Kabi and Konkona Sen Sharma as the parents of the deceased girl and Irrfan as an investigative officer handling the murder mystery. [caption id=“attachment_2404840” align=“alignleft” width=“380” class=" “] Screengrab.[/caption] Addressing the media on Sunday in Mumbai, Vishal Bharadwaj, who is also the co-producer of the film, said, “As Meghna and I started researching on this case, we found several bizarre contradictions and each view had their own conviction. So we thought, we should present all the three views – the investigations of the police, the probe by CBI and followed by another investigation by one more CBI team – and we have tried to show that with as much honesty as we could. We have not given any judgment and we have left it to the sensibility of the viewers.” When asked if the makers of the film have taken consent from the Talwar family or met them in this regard, Vishal said, “We have not taken the permission.” Director Meghna Gulzar weighed on in the point and said that this was a difficult film as it does not have a predictable ending. “It was a fabulous journey. We had to step out of everything that is familiar and comfortable and I think that’s what made it so exciting. Even though the film is inspired by the real events, it still is not that same story. And while making the film, once in a while, I would realise that these just are not characters. This has happened in real life to these people. Sometimes, that was unnerving.” The actors in Talvar — Neeraj Kabi, Konkona Sen Sharma and Irrfan Khan — said it is a sensitive film and as actors it was not suitable for them to take a stance. “You are making a film about people who are alive and are suffering, you have to be extremely sensitive,” said Kabi, who is playing Aarushi’s father Rajesh Talwar in the film. When asked what made him be a part of the project, Irrfan said, “The power of the story.”
