Varun Dhawan’s “brutally honest” acceptance speech at the News18 Showsha Reel Awards is making headlines. Varun was presented with the Best Actor award for his sincere performance in Nitesh Tiwari’s Bawaal. Alongside him, Shah Rukh Khan (Pathaan and Jawan), Ranbir Kapoor (Animal and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar), Sunny Deol (Gadar 2), Salman Khan (Tiger 3), Ranveer Singh (Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani) and Vicky Kaushal (Sam Bahadur) were nominated in the category.

Varun Dhawan left hearts melting as he gave a moving speech while accepting the Best Actor title for the film Bawaal. As the actor began his speech, he jokingly said, “When the nominations were announced, Bhushanji (Kumar) very sweetly told me that tum hi jeet rahe ho isliye toh aaye ho (you are only winning it because that’s why you have come).”

He continued, “When I was informed about my nomination and told that this was a popular choice and there would be public voting, so I got extremely excited thinking that I could win this. But when I saw the nominations, I couldn’t believe it that someone would vote for me more than Sunny (Deol) sir and Salman (Khan) bhai.”

Emphasising Bawaal’s performance on the OTT platform Amazon Prime, Varun said that the film met with a lot of controversies after it was released as people had a mixed response whether it was politically correct or incorrect. He went on to add that Bawaal got 22.6 million views last year which establishes that the movie has stood the test of time.

In Bawaal, Varun essayed the role of a self-obsessed high school History teacher. The actor earned widespread love and appreciation from his fans for his earnest performance in the film. Now, his speech garnered him more attention from his fans who are showering praises on the actor for ‘calling out’ people. His honesty in the speech prompted user to comment, “This is the most brutally honest award acceptance speech, I can’t BELIEVE Varun said all of this on stage, it’s good that he called out.”
