Mumbai Mist was made as part of the  'magnificent five-directors' collaboration project for the BRICS Film Festival this year in China, wherein five filmmakers have been roped in to make 18-minute shorts on the theme “Where Has The Time Gone?” reports Mumbai Mirror.

Bhandarkar, with Mumbai Mist, represented  India alongside world-renowned storytellers like Walter Salles (who directed The Motorcycle Diaries) from Brazil, Chinese director-screenwriter Jia Zhangke, Russian storyteller Aleksey Fedorchenko and South African filmmaker Jahmil XT Qubeka.

According to a Variety report, the film festival kicked off on 23 June and will continue till 27 June.

The story of the film revolves around an upper-middle-class man played by Annu Kapoor who in the wake of leading a lonely life in the cosmopolitan Mumbai, befriends an 11-year-old ragpicker named Charlie (played by Devrath Mudgal).

The trailer starts with Kapoor saying, "Is busy sheher me sab kuch mil jata hai, siway waqt ke (We get every thing from this busy city, except for time)," with Raj Kapoor's song 'Awaara Hoon' playing in the background.

Then there is a musical shift and one gets to see Kapoor enjoying his time with his ragpicker buddy Charlie. There's a sense of satisfaction and happiness in his face whenever he is seen with Charlie and hence that goes without saying that both of them share a special bond.

Mumbai Mist is written by Sanjay Chhel and Priyanka Ghatak. Japanese DOP Keiko Nakahara, who worked with Bhandarkar on Indu Sarkar, has also collaborated with the director on this upcoming feature.

Bhandarkar, speaking to Mumbai Mirror about this film said,  “The film will make you smile and cry too."
