Veteran Tamil director-cinematographer, who won the national award five times, is staging a come back with a new film Thalaimuraigal (Generatoins) at 74. One of the oldest alumni of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, Balu Mahendra is nationally known for his Moondram Pirai (Sadma in Hindi) in which Sridevi bagged the national award for best actress. Notably, the film is produced by Sashikumar, who heralded the present generation of realistic low budget films in Tamil. Ilayaraja has scored the music.
