“Oh man, this might be the one time I’m speechless,” that’s how actor Robin Williams started his Oscar speech in 1998 when he received the Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as psychologist Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting. But well, when you hear that speech today, it’s bound to leave you speechless. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor thrice for his roles in the films Good Morning, Vietnam, Dead Poets’ Society and The Fisher King, but 1996 was his year, when he received his first and his only Oscar. His portrayal of Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting was not only honest and joyful, but also extremely inspiring. And then, came his remarkable speech. “Most of all, I want to thank my father, up there, the man who when I said I wanted to be an actor, he said, ‘Wonderful. Just have a back-up profession like welding.” —A speech that’s so full humility and humor could only be delivered by that man. Watch the full speech here:
