Watch: New ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ featurette tells us more about the ‘Four Horsemen’
Ever since the X-Men: Apocalypse teaser was released in December 2015, with a more elaborate official trailer being made available in March, there’s been plenty of discussion over the “four horsemen” who will assist main baddie Apocalypse on his quest to destroy the world.
This week, 20th Century Fox released a series of posters of the “Four Horsemen” from the film — the characters Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Angel (Ben Hardy). The studio also released a video featurette that saw Michael Fassbender and X-Men director Bryan Singer talking about the plot.
X-Men: Aplocalypse is the sequel to 2014’s Days of Future Past, and is the ninth X-Men film to be made so far. As we saw in the previous trailer, it focuses on the “original” mutant, some call him a “god” — Apocalypse — who believes he must destroy our world so that a better one can be created. For his purpose, he must gather together four followers (or his four “horsemen” in a Biblical allusion) to carry out his agenda.
“Apocalypse is the original mutant, and he magnifies all of their powers,” says Michael Fassbender in the Four Horsemen featurette. “He’s decided to take judgment on the world, so he’s gathered together a team of mutants to wipe out the human race.”
The film’s director Bryan Singer confirmed what we already knew from seeing the trailer — that Apocalypse means business. “Apocalypse has gathered his horsemen and his agenda is much more catastrophic than before,” Singer says in the video.
X-Men: Apocalypse features James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Jennifer Lawrence as Raven/Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast and Sophie Turner as Jean Grey. Oscar Isaac plays Apocalypse.
The film is expected to release on May 27.
