WATCH: Akshay Kumar becomes latest victim of Deepfake video, plans to take legal action

The Deepfake menace refuses to end, with fake videos of Rashmika Mandanna and pictures of actresses like Katrina Kaif, Kajol, and even the likes of Sara Tendulkar being circulated online. The latest victim is actor Akshay Kumar. A video that has gone viral on social media sees the actor asking viewers to try and download a game application, and playing the game himself too.

“The actor has never indulged in promotions of any such activity. The source of this video is being looked into and legal action is underway for misusing the actor’s identity for false advertising,” a source was quoted saying to IANS. It added, " “A cyber complaint against the social media handle and the company has been filed for creating and promoting this fake video.” Other sources told IANS- “He is deeply upset at having his identity misused and has instructed his team to deal with this matter using all legal remedies available.” Rashmika Mandanna’s deepfake case has taken an interesting turn as the main culprit behind the same has finally been arrested. On Saturday, the Delhi Police claimed to have arrested the main culprit who was involved in Rashmika’s deepfake case. Reportedly, a video of British influencer Zara Patel was morphed where her picture was superimposed by the actress’s face.   The Animal actress, known for her roles in films such as Pushpa, Mission Majnu, and Animal, expressed concern over the misuse of technology saying that she was “really hurt” to see the video. The video also prompted several celebrities and government officials to come out and call out the incident. The government even issued a reminder highlighting the legal provisions governing such deepfakes.
