Was I paid more than Salman Khan in HAHK? Let the mystery continue, says Madhuri Dixit
Alert as a snake, Madhuri Dixit refused to bite the bait.
In the middle of a raging debate on gender-based pay-discrimination in Bollywood, Madhuri Dixit has refused to break a long time legend about getting paid more than Salman Khan in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.
Anupam Kher was taking Madhuri on a trip down memory lane on his show on Colours (The Anupam Kher Show) when he suddenly popped the question: “Is it true that you were paid more than Salman Khan in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun?”
Alert as a snake, Madhuri refused to bite the bait. “Agar yeh baat chali hai toh chalne deejiye (if that’s what the rumour is let the rumour be),” she said with her trademark smile and an elaborate, exaggerated shrug of her shoulder.
Just recently Salman rubbished the gender debate saying that there are many top actresses who were getting paid more than their male counterparts.
"There are so many male stars who get a lot less than many female stars. There are male stars in the Rs 1-3 Crore bracket, and there are lots of female stars in the Rs 5-7 Crore bracket...that’s also there, right? Uske bare mein koi kyun nahi bolta? So this whole female stars (vs) male stars debate is bulls**t. Whoever is selling, and as much as he or she is selling, will get (paid) that much,” Salman told the Hindustan Times recently.
The way Madhuri avoided a direct answer and let gestures do the talking, it seems Salman was speaking from first-hand experience.
