Six girls in Kolkata, India, form a dance group, in a city and country that knows nothing about the dance form - waacking. We follow their adventures on and off. This is how the new show on Amazon Prime Video In Waacky Girls can be summoned up. We have seen a lot of underdog stories in Hindi cinema, and this web series is no different. The one could thing about underdog stories these days is that they are not written with melodramatic touches, even though the conflicts remain pretty much the same. Waack Girls is indeed quite a wacky title. And equally feisty is the ensemble.

Mekhola Bose, Rytasha Rathore, Chrisann Pereira, Anasua Chowdhury, Priyam Saha, Ruby Sah, Achintya Bose, all managed to leave a lasting impression. This is a far more twisted and entertaining take on Prabhu Deva’s ABCD. But unlike that film which later bloomed into an inconsequential franchise, Waacky Girls retains the froth that is genuinely needed in stories like these.

There are multiple montages where we see the journey of these central characters from zero to rise. And there is some fun to be had in the banter that they have throughout the running time of the web series. For all those who thought that being melodramatic was the only way to reach people’s hearts and tug their emotional quotient may have to just check this show on Amazon out.
