After an intimate yet uber-luxe wedding at a heritage Tuscan retreat in Italy, newlyweds Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli hosted a grand reception for their family, friends and a few VIPs in Delhi. The newlyweds were seen dancing unabashedly at the reception party.

The reception, which was held on Thursday night (21 December 2017) saw Virat and Anushka meet with their well-wishers at the Durbar Hall of the Taj Diplomatic Enclave. A statement from the couple’s spokesperson had previously said that the Delhi reception would be only for the couple’s relatives and friends, with another function planned for 26 December in Mumbai, where personalities from the cricket and film worlds were expected to attend. However, Virat and Anushka met with Narendra Modi on Wednesday evening, and extended an invite for their reception in Delhi, and the Prime Minister reciprocated their gesture by being present at the event the next evening. The invite for their Delhi reception[/caption] A stage was placed for the couple’s photo-ops with the press outside the venue, done up in pink and silver, with extensive use of crystal and candles. The menu for the evening
reportedly encompassed Rajasthani cuisine, and seafood. Virat and Anushka posed for the photographers and accepted the good wishes of the media before heading inside to meet with their guests. Couturier Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who designed the couple’s ensembles for all of their wedding-related functions, put together their look for the reception as well. Anushka was resplendent in a vermilion Benarasi sari with heavy zari and traditional jewellery, while Virat was dressed in a dapper black sherwani. Sabyasachi
said: “I don’t think Indian brides feel complete without wearing the colour red in one of their functions. Anushka decided to wear red on her reception. And much to my absolute delight, it would be a red Benarasi sari, from the by-lanes of Peeli Kothi in Benaras. I was particularly excited about this look because I have seen an entire generation of Bengali women getting married in red Benarasi saris. The red bindi, the sindoor and the mogras in her hair just made the look more potent and powerful. She chose to wear a heritage uncut diamond choker and jhumkas from the Sabyasachi Bridal Jewellery collection. Bollywood can play a major role in spreading awareness about Indian textiles and handlooms. And I must say the occasion couldn’t be better. I know copies of this sari will flood the entire country in the next few months to come, which also means that a million weaver’s children will be back at school. All I can say is thank you Anushka!” Of Virat’s look, Sabya said: “Virat chose to complement his new bride in a very subtle and elegant manner. He wore a black textured silk signature bandhgala with the house buttons in 18k gold and a white silk kurta with hand-woven brocade churidaar. He teamed it with mojris from the Sabyasachi accessories line and a hand-embroidered antique Pashmina shawl from our ‘Kashmir Revival’ project.” [caption id=“attachment_4270135” align=“alignnone” width=“825”]
