Varun Dhawan may play Dhyan Chand, but hockey star's biopic still on shaky ground

Four years after the son of Dhyan Chand sold the rights to make a film based on the hockey legend’s life to producers Pooja and Aarti Shetty, there are reports that the project may finally be moving ahead. [caption id=“attachment_2829012” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Varun Dhawan. Image by Sachin Gokhale[/caption] DNA has reported that the Shettys have approached Dharma Productions and that Karan Johar has discussed the biopic with his ‘find’ Varun Dhawan, to feature as Dhyanchand. Incidentally, there were rumours that Ranbir Kapoor might be taken on board to play the hockey star. However, the casting seems not to have worked out. The road to making the film may not be smooth sailing yet. The DNA report also claims that Karan Johar does not want the biopic to be helmed by debutant director Rohit Jaisingh Vaid — who was the one to buy the rights for the biopic for the Shetty sisters from the legend’s son, Ashok Dhyan Chand. With Rohit not of a mind to step away from the project, it seems that it will be a while yet before we’ll see Varun (if he is finalised) wielding a hockey stick on screen.
