Vampire Diaries gets a desi remake, contains leather, a dog and plastic fangs

There’s going to be a new show on TV, it’s called Fanaah and before we say another word, watch the trailer here. We’ll give you a moment to recover from the hysterical bout of laughter that has, no doubt, followed. Once you’ve collected yourself, read on because we’ve got a few deets about Fanaah that you must know. 1. Yes, it is a real show and no, the video was not made by All India Bakchod, although the makers of Fanaah might have got inspired after watching AIB’s Game Of Thrones-meets-Bhansali video and decided to make The-Vampire-Diaries-meet-Saas-Bahu-soap. [caption id=“attachment_1601947” align=“aligncenter” width=“380”]  Courtesy: Facebook[/caption] 2. Fanaah is reportedly the Indian adaptation of the popular teen drama, The Vampire Diaries (TVD). It has Ratan Rajput and Karan Kundra in the lead roles. Admittedly, there are some similarities, but clearly, the show has been modified to suit Indian tastes. Presuming, of course, that Indian tastes run to women wearing a dominatrix-meets-Statue of Liberty costume and spouting dialogues last heard from vamps of K-serials. Is she the Indian version of Katerina Petrova? You’ll have to watch Fanaah to find out. 3. We don’t know who is playing Damon Salvatore (one of the protagonists of TVD and the most famous character), originally played by Ian Somerhalder, but all the Damon fans in India already have this expression on their face:  4. It’s possible that the costume designers have struck a deal with a store owner in Lokhandwala who lends out Halloween props because those fangs are so obviously plastic. Also, we’re reasonably certain that the werewolf is an Alsatian. 5. MTV in India has built a reputation for airing voyeuristic reality TV shows like Splitsvilla and The Roadies. Fanaah, which will be aired at 6 pm on weekdays, appears to be aimed at an youth-adult audience, which means that in spite of the profusion of fake leather in the costumes, there’s little chance of vampire-sex or fang-ridden make out sessions. We have no idea why you’d bother to remake a TVD without these critical details. 6. In the last five seasons, The Vampire Diaries taught us many things about vampires (and untaught many things that The Twilight Saga promised us was true about vampires). For instance, only a true TVD fan would know how to kill an original or how to evoke a sire bond. Following in those footsteps, Fanaah clearly has nuggets of information for Indian audiences. For instance, in Fanaah vampires don’t run at high speed. Instead, they trail behind the, er, Alsatian (werewolf?) like a lazy dogwalker. (Is he on vervain? Or are Indian vampires just very slow?) There’s also a peculiar relationship with roses: vampires seem to enjoy throwing fireballs at them.
