Remember the Spice Girls’ 1996 pop anthem “Wannabe” that had the world humming along? The UN’s Global Goal Campaign has now used the tune for its #WhatIReallyReallyWant movement and recreated the song using international female artists, including Bollywood’s own Jacqueline Fernandez. The movement aims to shed light on issues like violence against women, lack of educational opportunities for girls and child marriage. It is also a part of ‘Project Everyone’, founded by Richard Curtis, the director of films like Love Actually and Notting Hill. The campaign’s message on YouTube states that “2016 is our chance to use our collective power and tell world leaders what we really, really want for girls and women. If you make the noise, we’ll get your message to world leaders at the UN in September.” [caption id=“attachment_2876558” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Jacqueline Fernandez stars in the Spice Girls video remake. The campaign is a larger part of the United Nations’ effort to hold the world leaders to their word of meeting sustainable development goals; a major one being to prioritise the rights of women. The organisation hopes to gather responses to the video and bring them to the UN General Assembly which will be held this September. The video also has Posh Spice aka Victoria Beckham’s approval as she said in a statement to TIME magazine:  “I think this film is a wonderful idea. How fabulous is it that after 20 years, the legacy of the Spice Girls — ‘Girl Power’ — is being used to encourage and empower a whole new generation!” We couldn’t agree more! Watch the video here:
