UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer made his first official visit to India on 8 October, arriving in Mumbai to lead a large delegation of 125 members, including CEOs, entrepreneurs, university vice-chancellors, and cultural leaders.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to receive the political personality.
Sir Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, is on a two-day visit to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Welcome Prime Minister Keir Starmer on your historic first visit to India with the largest ever trade delegation from the UK. Looking forward to our meeting tomorrow for advancing our shared vision of a stronger, mutually prosperous future,” wrote Modi on X to welcome Sir Keir to India.
Both PMs with have a conversation and participate in several business-related meetings in the next two days. “The visit will build on the momentum and substance generated by the visit of Prime Minister Modi to the UK on 23–24 July 2025. It will provide a valuable opportunity to reaffirm the shared vision of India and the United Kingdom to build a forward-looking partnership,” the Ministry of External Affairs shared in a statement informing about the visit.
Day 1 schedule
On the first day (today), Starmer will visit the Yash Raj Films (YRF) studios in Andheri, which is one of the biggest Bollywood studios. The visit to the production house aims to drive great collaboration efforts between British and Indian film industries.
The British PM is also scheduled to participate in a football event at Cooperage Football Ground, which is organised by the English Premier League.
The event, which will be attended by the former England player and international Michael Owen, is designed to promote sports diplomacy and strengthen ties between the UK and India in the sport of football.
