Two genres, one vision: Aditya Sarpotdar discusses the challenge of directing Munjya and The Secret of the Shiledars

Directed by Munjya fame , Aditya Sarpotdar, starring Rajeev Khandelwal along with Sai Tamhankar, Gaurav Amlani and Ashish Vidyarthi the series releases from 31st January, 2025 onwards only on Disney+ Hotstar.

When asked about directing The Secret of the Shiledars after his blockbuster and critically acclaimed movie Munjya, which beautifully blended horror and Indian folklore, Aditya Sarpotdar shared, “Immediately after shooting Munjya, I started working on The Secret of the Shiledar, with both projects being written parallelly. Exploring two vastly different genres—Munjya being a folklore horror comedy and Shiledar a treasure hunt drama filled with adventure and action—has been an exciting challenge. For me, genres become secondary; it’s the instinct to tell an engaging story that drives the filmmaker. Munjya was a theatrical horror film that needed to be experienced in a dark, immersive space with sound designed for a cinematic experience. On the other hand, The Secret of the Shiledar, being a series on an OTT platform, had to be approached differently. We had to write, perceive, and shoot it with the awareness that the audience would watch it at home, on their devices, or on TV. The craft for both projects had to adapt to their respective platforms, but it was thrilling to navigate these challenges with two unique genres.”
