TV actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee denies being detained by Mumbai police in murder case

A Mumbai-based diamond merchant's body was found by the Panvel police, opening several lines of enquiry. Rajeshwar Kishorilal Udani, the deceased, and a resident of Ghatkopar, had been missing for the last 10 days. Thus, his family members lodged a 'missing persons report' with the Pantnagar police station earlier this week.

Now, as part of the investigation, the police have no called in actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee for questioning, reports Times of India. Bhattacharjee is most well known for her portrayal of Gopi Bahu in the popular serial Saath Nibhana Sathiya. The actress was called in to Ghatkopar Police station. However, contrary to reports, she has not been detained by the authorities, her lawyer said.

Earlier, there had been reports of Udani's involvement with other television actresses as well as women who were recruited as dancers at bars that were frequented by him. The aforementioned report adds that the case may even involve other television personalities too.

A former politician, involved with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also been arrested in connection to the case. Maharashtra Housing Minister Prakash Mehta, and BJP worker Sachin Pawar may also be a close acquaintance of the deceased.

The case was opened after Udani's body was found in the bushes near Dehrang Dam in Panvel on Thursday night. Following investigation, it was found that Udani was last seen near the Vikhroli traffic police outpost on the eastern express highway (EEH) on the night of 28 November. Reportedly, Udani had asked his driver to drop him off at this location, after which he got into another car and drove away.

Udani's body has been sent for postmortem.
