Trapped, Govinda's Aa Gaya Hero, Beauty and the Beast: This week's releases

It's a big week for Bollywood this week with Rajkummar Rao's Trapped, the Rajat Kapoor and Kalki Koechlin starrer Mantra being released. Those looking for their usual masala films are also in luck: Govinda's Aa Gaya Hero and Abbas-Mustan helmer Machine are also out. Disney's live-action remake of Beauty and The Beast takes the lead in Hollywood.

What's It About: Rajkummar Rao finds himself locked in an isolated high-rise apartment in Mumbai with no access to the outside world. There's no food or water and there's only a rat he can have a conversation with. Will he survive?

Who's In It: Rajkummar Rao, Geetanjali Thapa

Why It May Work:  The urban thriller is will showcase Rajkummar Rao's acting abilities to the finest as he plays the equivalent of a lone survivor on an island. People will surely flock to see his performance.

Trapped is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane.

Aa Gaya Hero

What's It About: Govinda takes us back to the 90s: he's the good cop who gets on the bad side of the nexus of corrupt politicians and their criminal connections.

Who's In It: Govinda, Ashutosh Rana and Murli Sharma.

Why It May Work: The combination of our favourite hero from the 90s coupled with a story-line from the same decade will have the audience lining up to buy the tickets for this one.

Aa Gaya Hero has been directed by Dipankar Senapati.


What's It About: Fast cars and young love. Abbas Burmawala, the one half of the director duo Abbas-Mustan launches his son Mustafa in a thriller about race cars.

Who's In It: Mustafa Burnawala, Kiara Advani

Why It May Work: It has Abbas-Mustan's signature thriller style.

Machine has been directed by Abbas-Mustan.


What's It About: The film festival favourite Mantra is finally going to be out in theatres across India. A businessman tries to save his crumbling business and his dysfunctional family from falling apart.

Who's In It: Kalki Koechlin, Rajat Kapoor, Shiv Pandit, Lushin Dubey and Adil Hussain.

Why It May Work: The film has powerhouse performers like Rajat Kapoor and Kalki Koechin. If thats not reason enough to see the film, it has also gained appreciation at Jio MAMI 2016, SAIFF, IFFI.

Mantra has been directed by Nicholas Kharkongor.


Beauty and the Beast

What's It About: The live-action remake of the 90s Disney film is about a toy maker’s daughter who becomes the prisoner of a grumpy Beast (he is a prince who has been cursed by an enchantress). The prince can only transform into his handsome, blue-eyed boy state if he finds true love. Will he succeed?

Who's In It: Emma Watson, Luke Evans, Kevin Kline and Josh Gad. The animated cutlery and antique collection is voiced by the likes of Sir Ian McKellen, Stanley Tucci, Emma Thompson and Ewan McGregor.

Why It May Work: The 1992 animated musical was a favourite among the Disney audience. The live-action musical will draw the same audience who might be excited about their favourite Disney musical being recreated.

Beauty and the Beast has been directed by Bill Condon.

Before I Fall

What's It About: This time loop film has a high-school teenager relive the last day of her life again and again. Will she be able to break the loop?

Who's In It: Zoey Deutch, Halston Sage, Logan Miller

Why It May Work: The film works on an interesting premise: what would you do if you could relive your last day again and again?

Before I Fall is directed by Ry Russo-Young.
