Sherlock is going to be back in 2016 and with a bang!
Fans can finally stop speculating why the show’s superstars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman were spotted in 19th century clothes while filming. Last year, the BBC released an image of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in character as the detective and his assistant in Victorian clothing.
The creators of the show have promised its viewers a special 90-minute episode that will take place in Victorian London. Speculation was strife after they were spotted in top hats and tails last year, causing fans to wonder if perhaps the detective twosome were going for a special costume ball, or perhaps it was just some kind of dream sequence within the special.
But the show’s co-creator, Steven Moffat, confirmed the news on Monday, the episode will literally take place a 100 years ago in the 1800s!
This special will not be connected to the three episode season four of the serial at all. Viewers everywhere are rejoicing as they get one extra episode, ahead of the scheduled next season in 2016.
“The special is its own thing,” he said to Entertainment Weekly . “We wouldn’t have done the story we’re doing, and the way we’re doing it, if we didn’t have this special. It’s not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it – as we could hardly conceal – it’s Victorian. [Co-creator Mark Gatiss> and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be separate entity on its own. It’s kind of in its own little bubble.”
Moffat also added that filming had been completed on the special and he was “very pleased” with the result. The BBC has yet to confirm when it will be broadcast.
Are you excited? Because it’s going to be one of the most anticipated episodes of the year!
