Tomb Raider, Dil Juunglee, 3 Storeys, Hate Story IV: Know your releases
This week, moviegoers will be able to watch movies from a wide array of genres but fans of Hollywood might have very limited options. The popular videogame reboot Tomb Raider hits theatres along with three Bollywood releases: the romantic comedy Dil Juunglee, the thriller drama 3 Storeys and the erotic thriller Hate Story IV.
Here's a look at what's in store this Friday.
What's it about: Tomb Raider, based on a popular reboot of a video game of the same name, will see the famed adventurer Lara Croft go in search of her father's last known destination: a fabled tomb on a mystical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan.
Who is in it: Alicia Vikander, Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu and Nick Frost.
Why it may work: It has been 15 years since we last saw a live-action Tomb Raider on the big screen. After thoroughly impressing all of us in A Royal Affair, The Danish Girl (for which she won an Oscar), The Man From U.N.C.L.E and Ex Machina, Vikander portrays a Lara Croft who has clearly eschewed her sex-symbol image for something more powerful and iconic. She also bears an uncanny resemblance to the rebooted Lara we saw in the award-winning game.
What's it about: Dil Juunglee is a romantic comedy film, that is an honest exploration of how one feels when they are in love or as described by the director Aleya Sen Sharma, ""Your heart will behave out of character and make you do crazy things. When you are in love, you are really wild."
Who is in it: Tapsee Pannu, Saqib Saleem, Abhilash Thapliyal, Nidhi Singh and Srishti Shrivastava
Why it may work: Directed by Aleya Sen Sharma, the movie stars Tapsee Pannu, who is already proving herself to be one of the most gifted and versatile actresses in Bollywood.
Sen Sharma said the characters in the movie are inspired by real people and that will surely add some autheniticty to the story.
What's it about: Helmed by debutant director Arjun Mukerjee, 3 Storeys revolves around different neighbours living in the same 'chawl' in Mumbai.
Who is in it: Richa Chadha, Pulkit Samrat, Sharman Joshi and Renuka Shahane
Why it may work: 3 Storeys tries to capture the microcosm of human existence in the busy city of Mumbai and that makes it relatable. It also marks the Bollywood comeback of actress Renuka Shahane, who plays a middle-aged grey-haired Catholic woman named Flory. It also has the ever-charming Richa Chadha, who plays a mysterious woman named Leela.
Hate Story IV
What's it about: The fourth installment of the Hate Story franchise, Hate Story IV is reportedly a revenge story based on a real-life incident.
Who is in it: Urvashi Rautela, Karan Wahi, Vivan Bhatena and Ihana Dhillon
Why it may work: Directed by Vishal Pandya and written by Sammeer Arora, Hate Story IV serves the audience with an edgy content that is a mix of thriller, erotica and revenge.
Ihana Dhillon, known for Punjabi films like Daddy Cool Munde Fool and Tiger, will also make her Bollywood debut in the film.
