After Khosla Ka Ghosla, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye and Love, Sex Aur Dhokha, Dibaker Banerjee Films’ next (produced by Yash Raj) Titli is also set in Delhi, and also revolves around one family. However, a couple of seconds into the trailer, and you realize why many reports are calling this film Noir. Crisp, gripping and a tease, the trailer starts off by introducing us to a family of brothers, headed by the extremely versatile Ranvir Shorey. The youngest brother (Shashank Arora) of this car-jacking family wants out and plans to start his own business on the side. As he tries to escape his “family business”, the trailer takes us through his warped relationship with his new wife and sharp inter cuts of this family of rogue, as they maneuver through the underbelly of Delhi. [caption id=“attachment_2450184” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] A still from the trailer.[/caption] Filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee said that the first trailer of his film Titli was changed due to the feedback that it didn’t capture the core essence of the film. “We had created an identical version of the trailer we prepared for Cannes film festival, and then we released it in India. But when we showed the India cut of Titli to a focus group, they gave us a tight slap. They told us that it is such an accessible, simple and easy-to-understand film, and that it had actually happened with their families,” said Banerjee. The film has been showcased at 22 festivals across the world, including the 2014 Cannes International Film Festival and has been the recipient of numerous awards but Dibakar said that a ‘festival’ tag poses a kind of obstacle regarding the perception of the film. “This is a strange dilemma. A section of audience, distributors, and marketing team get scared as soon as they hear the word ‘festival’. They wonder if the film will bore you or irritate you,” said Banerjee. “But the kind of director that Kanu Behl is, he is not one of those directors who wants to bore you. In fact, some of his scripts will make you hold your stomachs out of laughter, which he’ll do later,” he added. Kanu Behl had assisted Dibakar on Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and LSD: Love, Sex Aur Dhokha. The film’s synopsis on their Youtube page asks a vital question: “Is escape the same as freedom?” We’ll only know on October 30, when the film releases. Watch the trailer here:
