The trailer introduces us to the Gunslingers, referred to as knights, whose duty is to protect the Dark Tower, which ensures that the Universe does not collapse. Idris Elba plays a Gunslinger who encounters a young boy from Earth, played by Tom Taylor. Taylor’s character finds himself in the midst of a war in Elba’s world by walking through a gateway.

The trailer has some well-written lines like, “I do not shoot with my hand, I shoot with my mind.”

The film explores how Elba and Taylor’s characters save the Earth from McConaughey’s Padick, who wishes to control the Universe. It is based on Stephen King’s book series of the same name.

On his decision to cast Elba for one of the lead roles, director Nikolaj Arcel said , “For me, it just clicked. He’s such a formidable man.” King, too, approved of this choice. Arcel also said that McConaughey and his character share a similarity — they both can do anything.

McConaughey, whose character shows no mercy in this film and is willing to kill even a child, was last seen in Gold directed by Stephen Gaghan. Idris Elba’s last appearance on the silver screen was in Star Trek Beyond.

The Dark Tower is scheduled to release on 4 August, 2017.
