Los Angeles: Lee Daniels ‘The Butler’ took the top spot at the box office by earning $25 million in its debut. The film, starring Oprah Winfrey and Forest Whitaker, revolves around the true story of White House butler Eugene nAllen who served eight presidents during his term. Critics initially thought the film will land behind Kick- Ass 2 but the superhero film made it to the fourth spot by earning $13.6 million, way under the nearly $20 million it was expected to rake in, reported E! News. Jennifer Aniston’s “We’re the Millers” grabbed the No 2 spot for the second straight weekend with $ 17.8 million, followed by “Elysium” with $13.6 million. Ashton Kutcher starrer “Jobs” and Harrison Ford starrer “Paranoia” also made their debuts this weekend, but neither made the top five, with the Steve Jobs biopic landing in seventh at $ 6.7 million and the Relativity thriller grossing only $ 3.5 million. Disney’s animation drama “Planes” was at the fifth spot with $ 13.1 million while “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters at sixth with $ 8.4 million. 2 Guns was at the eight spot by earning $ 5.6 million, The Smurfs 2 at ninth with $ 4.6 million and Hugh Jackman’s “The Wolverine” at the tenth spot with $4.4 million this weekend.
