Chatterjee, known for for her performance in the 2007 British film Brick Lane and Academy Award-winning German director Florian Gallenberger's film Shadows of Time, spoke about the unusual title in a statement. She said, "When I told Ravi (Walia), producer of Roam Rome Mein, that I have written a rom-com called Dhoka Cola which has been shortlisted for the APSA MPA film fund, he immediately said, 'It’s a quirky title; I want to produce it.'"
The idea of Dhoka Cola was conceptualised while working for Roam Rome Mein, producer Walia said. "I loved the title immediately aftrer reading the script. I knew I had to produce it. The script has a young, contemporary and funny treatment and it’s in the great space of music, love story, and a great idea," he said, adding that he was looking forward to working with Chatterjee on the new project.
