Popular TV actress Ankita Lokhande Jain is currently garnering praise for her performance as Yamunabai in Randeep Hooda starrer Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.
Talking about playing this challenging character, she told Aaj Tak, “I don’t think too much about the image. I have just focused more on my role and acting. I am an actor and the job of an actor is to do whatever role they get a chance to play.”
While talking to India Today, producer Sandeep Singh revealed how the actress came to her rescue during his challenging phase and said, “When I was working with Mr Bhansali as a CEO, and I was co-producing Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Mary Kom, Gabbar is Back and Rowdy Rathore, since that time I had a friend called Ankita who believed in me. She and Kangana were among the first to tell me that ‘you should be the director.’ She (Ankita) said, ‘Sandeep jab tum film banana to main hi acting karungi (whenever you make a movie, I’ll act in it)’. When I made Safed, I approached her, but she couldn’t do the film. But whenever I was shooting, we were in touch.”
However, Ankita had one condition. “I have one condition. I am not going to charge for this film. I can never charge you for any role,” she said. I said, “Then you are in all my films.”
Talking about the decision, the Manikarnika actress added, “When you say you are a friend, you are a friend. I wanted to work with him, but because there were date issues during ‘Safed’ [I couldn’t take it]. But I have always believed in his vision. He has a very strong vision about cinema. He knows about cinema, and I am not talking about films. I have always seen him as a director, as a very strong creative mind, and I want to trust his vision all the time. That’s why I said that I wanted to play this character of Yamunabai in ‘Savarkar’. He was the one, and I did it for him.”
