A previous glimpse of Telugu star Mahesh Babu's upcoming film SPYder showed a spider crawling up his shoulder, and the actor turning and hushing it. Now, a new teaser of the bilingual film has been released on his 41st birthday, and it reminds us of the storyline of many films from the past, where the hero is seen trying to protect the interests of the commoners.

Mahesh Babu, like in Businessman, is seen fighting the villain and safeguarding the public; he looks young and crisp as always. There are also some interesting sequences where he intimidates the villain with with whistle-worthy punch lines.

SPYder marks Mahesh Babu's debut in Tamil films, and he has reportedly dubbed for his part in the Tamil version of the film himself. It will see him essay the role of an intelligence agent called Shiva, and it is being said that the film will deal with the issue of terrorism.

Directed by AR Murugadoss, this film is a reboot of the director's Tamil film Thuppakki, which starred Vijay. Also starring in this film are Rakul Preet Singh, who plays his love interest, and SJ Surya, who will play the antagonist. SJ Surya and Mahesh Babu come together after 13 years, only this time they are pitted against each other on screen. SPYder shows Rakul in a different avatar, unlike her other entertainers. The actress essays the role of geeky girl, smitten by the protagonist in this film.

The music of the film has been composed by Harris Jayaraj, and the first song 'Boom Boom' was released on saavn.com.

While the satellite rights of the film were sold for Rs 15 crore to Zee, the rights to the film in the US were sold for Rs 15.5 crore. Additionally, the film's out-of-India Tamil rights have been sold for Rs 8 crore, which means that its international rights have sold for over Rs 23.5 crore.

Initially, this film was supposed to release on Eid. Then, due to a delayed shoot, the film was postponed to August first and then to 27 September. It marks the first collaboration between Murugadoss and Babu.
