Spyder, the upcoming film by AR Murugadoss starring Mahesh Babu, has been sold to the Zee network for a whopping Rs 15 crore.

The trailer and first look of Spyder, one of the most awaited films in South India this year, have gone viral since they were released. The film has been made on a lavish budget of Rs 115 crore. It is produced by NVR Cinemas and will be distributed by Reliance Entertainment.

The film has been made in Tamil and Telugu, and marks Mahesh Babu’s debut in Tamil cinema. Along with Babu, the film also stars Rakul Preet Singh in the lead female role and SJ Suryah as the antagonist.

This film is a reboot of the 2012 film Thuppakki which starred Vijay and was directed by Murugadoss himself. It will see Babu in the role of an intelligence agent called Shiva and it is rumoured that the film will deal with the issue of terrorism.

The film’s music is produced by Harris Jayaraj, cinematography is by Santosh Sivan, who is aided by Vijay Milton. There are a number of stunt sequences in the film, and they have been choreographed by Peter Hein, Anal Arasu, Anbariv, Ravi Varma and Ram-Laxman.

Previously titled Mahesh 23, Spyder is scheduled to release on 23 June, 2017.  In the past, the Zee network purchased the rights of Rajinikanth’s 2.0 for Rs 110 crore.
