The film has been one of the biggest films of this year, minting Rs. 51 crore, worldwide, on the first day of its release itself. Revolving around the story of an Intelligence Bureau Officer on the hunt for a psychotic criminal, Spyder makes for a fast-paced, entertaining watch.
Babu's performance in the thriller is also being hailed as one of his best. Cutting-edge action sequences seem to have added to the film's international appeal, as it maintains its tenacity at the box office overseas.
Although the film received a major a setback in Telugu-speaking states, Murugadoss had explained in an earlier interview that the Andhra region looks at its star, Mahesh Babu, in a reverential light. However, in SPYder, he does not play the quintessential 'hero', which is why the audience is taking its own time to accept a different side of the actor.
