Sony Pictures and Marvel have released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Taking place presumably after Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the trailer shows Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and his classmates set off on a fun summer vacation in Europe — with shots of London and Venice in the footage. All Peter wants to do is some nice, stress-free sight-seeing without disastrous world-ending consequences. But the ever-serious agent Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) spoils the party looking to recruit Spidey for another potentially world-ending mission as a trio of elemental beings begin wreaking havoc in and around Europe.
And he has help this time, not from Tony Stark and the Avengers, but Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal).
A lot of the cast from Spider-Man: Homecoming have been retained in its follow-up — Marisa Tomei as Aunt May; Jacob Batalon as Peter’s best friend and the ‘guy in the chair’ Ned, Zendaya as his inevitable romantic interest; and Jon Favreau as bodyguard Happy Hogan.
The footage does leave you asking plenty of questions, like — What happened to Tony Stark? Does his absence mean he dies in Endgame? Is Fury taking over as Spider-Man’s mentor in his place? Is Mysterio really a god guy? and more.
Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Far From Home is scheduled for release on 5 July, 2019.
