Sonam Kapoor speaks out about being molested when she was younger: 'It was traumatising'

Neerja actress Sonam Kapoor has spoken out about being molested when she was younger.

Sonam was part of a ‘Bollywood roundtable’ hosted by journalist Rajeev Masand on CNN News 18, when she made the revelation.

Masand had invited actresses like Sonam, Vidya Balan, Alia Bhatt, Anushka Sharma and Radhika Apte — whose performances this year came in for critical acclaim — to be part of a special panel discussion.

It was in the course of this conversation that Sonam talked about being molested.

“I know I have been molested when I was younger, and it was traumatising,” Sonam is heard saying in a short, 40-second preview of the ‘roundtable’ that was released online.

Even as Sonam shares her disturbing experience, Vidya Balan — whose film Kahaani 2 dealt with the issue of child sexual abuse — talks about the terrible burden victims have to bear when they aren’t believed. Anushka, on the other hand, talks about how her mother would always question her about her safety, whether she had been inappropriately touched — the import of which Anushka says she didn’t understand until she was older.
