Simran: CBFC reportedly orders 10 cuts to Kangana Ranaut starrer

Hansal Mehta has reportedly accepted 10 cuts by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in his upcoming Kangana Ranaut-starrer Simran. The cuts that have apparently been recommended by the CBFC (led by Prasoon Joshi) are the words b*tch (at six different point in the film) and b*st*rd. Image via Twitter[/caption] “Derogating women by gesture or language will never be permissible under any guideline, be it Pahlaj or Prasoon (sic)," said an unverified source according to a DNA report. Loud moaning sounds during a scene of sexual intercourse have also been asked to be more subtle and subdued. “The sound effect made the sex scene look far more provocative than it actually was. So, it was asked to be toned down,” said another unverified source, according to an India.com report. A reference to the Muslim community mentioned casually in the movie has also reportedly been censored out, along with the deafening sound of a violent slap (which has allegedly also been recommended to be toned down by the CBFC). All these cuts will give Simran a U/A certificate for its release. Mehta’s Simran has been in the news for quite some time now. First it was the  entire spat with writer Apoorva Asrani  who had alleged that Ranaut has usurped his script and wrongfully taken co-writing credit for the film. Then, during the promotional activities, Ranaut made headlines when she openly discussed  her past issues and fall out with Hrithik Roshan . Much like Ranaut’s real-life unabashed and unapologetically honest personality, her character in the film Simran, also speaks her mind. And, that hasn’t gone down well with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The CBFC had previously ordered Mehta to do away with all the verbal profanities used in the film, according to another report by DNA. The report stated an unnamed source who claimed that Ranaut’s character [in the film] “speaks from the heart and talks first, thinks later”. Ranaut plays the role of a Gujarati NRI who is a divorcee in Simran. She works in the housekeeping department of a hotel. As per the trailer, she is seen shop lifting, gambling and leading an independent life devoid of any inhibitions. Simran stars Ranaut along with Mark Justice, Sohum Shah, Esha Tewari Pande and Aneesha Joshi. It is co-produced by Bhushan and Krishan Kumar’s T-Series Films and Hansal Mehta’s Karma Pictures. The film is slated to release on 15 September.
